About the campaign

BMW needed the 8 Series Convertible to appeal on an emotional level to a high-net-worth audience and to convert that appeal into test drives and brochure downloads. Luxury performance cars are usually sold on numbers and status, but the qualities that justify the 8 Series, elegance, power and thrill, are felt experiences that are hard to communicate in conventional advertising. Billion Dollar Boy's insight was that the sensation of driving the car can only truly be felt with hands on the wheel, so it had to be shown inside superior lifestyle experiences rather than spec sheets, while still producing measurable lower-funnel actions.

The idea tasked unique filmmakers and aspirational talent with each creating a video pairing the 8 Series with a key emotion evoked behind the wheel. Localised UK stories, surfing the Cornwall coast, art at the Henry Moore Sculpture Garden and exploring the Lake District, each carried unique per-influencer links to book test drives and download brochures, then the finished content was handed to BMW's media agency for paid targeting.

Emotion-led lifestyle films carried the luxury brief, and the response mechanic mattered as much as the films: unique tracking links made 100 test drive requests directly attributable to organic content. Platforms are not disclosed. Billion Dollar Boy reports 10M impressions, 1.7M views, 81K engagements across 83 pieces of content, 100 organic test drive requests and 2 car sales before paid media began. All figures are self-reported, and the 2-car sales figure carries an unexplained asterisk on the source page.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

High-net-worth individuals in the UK, addressed through aspirational lifestyle contexts rather than product specification.
Luxury performance cars are usually sold on numbers and status, but the qualities that justify the 8 Series, elegance, power, thrill, are felt experiences that are hard to communicate in conventional advertising.
A car at the confluence of luxury and uncompromising performance is rare, and the campaign had to make that combination register emotionally with a small, affluent audience while still producing measurable lower-funnel actions.
BMW positioned the 8 Series as a car made for modern exploring, the vehicle for superior lifestyle experiences across Britain.
Pairing each film with a single emotion felt behind the wheel, and attaching unique response links to every post, connected emotional storytelling directly to test drive and brochure actions.

Why Billion Dollar Boy's strategy worked

  1. 1

Emotion-led lifestyle films can carry a luxury automotive brief when the product's value is a felt experience rather than a specification.

  2. 2

Unique tracking links per creator tie organic influencer content to lower-funnel actions, making 100 test drive requests directly attributable.

  3. 3

Localised British settings, Cornwall, the Henry Moore Sculpture Garden, the Lake District, grounded an aspirational car in contexts its UK audience recognises.

  4. 4

Handing finished creator content to the client's media agency extended its use as paid-targeting material after the organic phase.

  5. 5

Reporting hard outcomes, car sales and test drive requests, alongside reach metrics makes a luxury influencer case more accountable than impressions alone.
