About the campaign

Azzaro, a luxury fragrance brand under L'Oreal, had no TikTok presence and needed to launch its new fragrance The Most Wanted to a Gen Z audience the brand had never reached on the platform. Luxury fragrance codes are polished and aspirational, while TikTok rewards informal, fast-moving, native-feeling content, so the brand's sophistication had to translate without feeling out of place. Fragrance cannot be smelled through a screen and Azzaro had no existing platform presence, so the launch had to earn attention through format rather than product demonstration. Socially Powerful pointed to transformation-style videos as content TikTok users already seek out, citing that 52% of users actively explore new products on the platform.

The idea was a mundane to extraordinary concept that made the fragrance the pivot point of transformation-style videos instead of importing traditional luxury advertising. More than 20 curated US TikTok creators from fashion, lifestyle, entertainment and men's grooming produced content in their own styles, each addressing a different audience segment, supplemented with paid social to extend distribution.

Matching a native format beat importing brand advertising, and spreading creators across four content categories gave one campaign access to several TikTok subcultures rather than a single audience pocket, while paid social extended a first-time platform entry beyond the creators' own followings. The campaign ran on TikTok. Socially Powerful reports 59M reach and 1.5M engagements, but every figure comes from the agency's own pages, the launch date is not stated, and no sales or brand-lift data was disclosed.

Case in 60 seconds

In January, gym marketing hits peak saturation. The Gym Group needed to stand out on TikTok and become the provider people choose for New Year fitness goals, as the UK's best value 24/7 gym.

Fitness brands were all targeting people already invested in fitness. The rest of the market was held back by pain points around the gym: anxiety, accessibility and embarrassment.

Democratise gym culture. Break gym stereotypes with light-hearted, Gen Z driven creator content that celebrates every type of gym-goer at every level.

A TikTok campaign combining a Top-View ad, sponsored posts from creators using #WeAreTheGymGroup, and product seeding to over 500 nano creators who produced organic content on the campaign concept.

The agency reports 1M clicks, 15M views and 500K engagements, and separately states over 59M views after the nano-creator seeding. All figures are self-reported and unverified.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

People not already invested in fitness, including first-time and hesitant gym-goers, with a Gen Z skew reflected in the creative and creator selection.
New Year resolution season pushes people toward the gym while gym culture itself, with its anxiety, accessibility and embarrassment pain points, pushes many of them away.
January is the most cluttered moment of the year for fitness marketing, and rival brands were concentrating their social spend on the already-converted.
The Gym Group positioned as the UK's best value 24/7 gym and the inclusive choice for New Year fitness goals, a gym for every type of gym-goer.
Encouraging participation means removing emotional barriers, so the creative tackled the pain points directly and represented all levels of fitness rather than showcasing ideal bodies or elite training.

Why Socially Powerful's strategy worked

  1. 1

Targeting the audience the category ignores, people not yet invested in fitness, gave the brand clear air in the most cluttered month of the year.

  2. 2

Creative built around removing barriers, gym anxiety, accessibility and embarrassment, differentiated a value gym brand without discounting-led messaging.

  3. 3

A diverse creator portfolio representing all fitness levels made the inclusivity claim tangible rather than stated.

  4. 4

Pairing one high-reach paid placement (TikTok Top-View) with over 500 seeded nano creators combined guaranteed visibility with a large volume of organic content.

  5. 5

A single branded hashtag, #WeAreTheGymGroup, tied paid creator posts and organic seeded content into one recognisable campaign.
