About the campaign

Unilever Homecare needed to launch its new Persil Wonder Wash range on social and land a single USP, a detergent built for short 15-minute cycles, in a category people find boring. Laundry is a low-interest purchase that has to manufacture attention rather than expect it, and for the target audience chores compete directly with social lives. Unilever research into 2,000 adults found that 25 to 34 year olds were most likely to squeeze tasks in quickly before and after the 9-5 workday, which pointed to framing laundry as something to compress around work and nights out.

The Goat Agency answered with Fast Wash and Rave, a recreated old-school laundromat that hosted a high-energy rave where 15-minute DJ sets ran exactly as long as a Wonder Wash cycle. Guests put a real wash on in working machines, watched a set including a headline spot from Craig David, and collected their laundry in time for the next one, physically experiencing the product claim. Influencers including Wes Nelson attended, and over 143 pieces of TikTok and Instagram content went out alongside two TikTok Lives.

Matching set length to cycle length made the format carry the claim, while a celebrity headliner and a room of creators turned one event into platform-native content at scale. The work ran on TikTok and Instagram. The agency's Shorty Awards entry, a Consumer Brand finalist, reports 2.8M impressions, over 667K engagements, 92 pieces of earned content and £102,500 in earned-media value including national press. These figures are self-reported and not independently audited, and no sales or brand-lift outcomes are disclosed.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

Adults aged 25 to 34, the group Unilever's research of 2,000 adults identified as most likely to squeeze tasks in quickly before and after the 9-5 workday.
Chores compete with social lives. For this audience, laundry is something to compress around work and nights out, not an evening's activity.
Laundry is a low-interest category, so a new detergent launch has to manufacture attention on social rather than expect it.
Persil Wonder Wash positioned itself as the product that hands time back, with the event proving a full wash fits inside one DJ set.
Making attendees physically experience the 15-minute cycle, wash in, set watched, wash out, communicates the USP more memorably than stating it.

Why The Goat Agency's strategy worked

  1. 1

Building the product truth into the format made the claim experiential: a 15-minute DJ set that ends when your wash does proves the USP instead of stating it.

  2. 2

Research picked the frame. The finding that 25 to 34 year olds compress tasks around the 9-5 justified staging laundry as nightlife for that audience.

  3. 3

A celebrity headliner plus a room of creators turned one event into over 143 pieces of platform-native content without heavy scripting.

  4. 4

Earned coverage extended the event beyond attendees, with 92 earned pieces and £102,500 in reported earned-media value including national press.
