About the campaign

When Microsoft launched Copilot into the Philippines in 2023, it entered a media environment where, per Vero's own survey, journalists were the most apprehensive about AI in Southeast Asia and used it the least, yet these were the communicators who shape how the wider public understands the technology. Vero's insight sharpened the problem: the journalists most anxious about AI were also the most hopeful about its impact, so the barrier was unfamiliarity rather than rejection, and direct experience could close the gap.

Rather than demo Copilot at communicators, Vero had them use it. Everyday AI for Every Communicator was a three-touchpoint in-person event series led by the Copilot AI-Rena Quiz Night, a play on AI and Arena, where journalists and creators powered through four high-energy quiz rounds with Copilot in hand, supported by AI Masterclasses. Every touchpoint put the product in participants' own hands in a social, low-stakes setting, framing use as play so skeptical professionals had a reason to try it that carried no professional threat.

Matching the mechanism to the barrier let hands-on use address anxiety more directly than messaging could, and targeting communicators first meant any attitude shift could compound through the coverage and content they went on to produce. The work engaged 58 journalists and 44 creators and newsfluencers, generating 78 earned social posts, with Vero reporting a 100% Copilot download rate and 100% positive brand sentiment. All outcomes are Vero's own account, with no independent press coverage or named dates, so effectiveness is asserted rather than demonstrated.

Case in 60 seconds

Microsoft launched Copilot in 2023 into a Philippine media environment where, per Vero's own survey, journalists were the most apprehensive about AI in Southeast Asia and used it the least, yet these journalists shape public opinion about the technology.

The same journalists who were most anxious about AI were also the most hopeful about its positive impact, so the barrier was unfamiliarity rather than rejection, and direct experience could close the gap.

Do not demo Copilot at communicators, have them use it. Everyday AI for Every Communicator built in-person events where journalists and creators powered through challenges with Copilot in hand.

Vero reports the campaign inspired curiosity, allayed AI-related anxiety, and forged real connections with journalists and creators around Copilot's everyday and enterprise potential. No quantitative results were published.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

Filipino journalists and content creators, the communicators who shape how the wider public understands AI. Vero's survey found them the most apprehensive about AI in Southeast Asia and its lightest users, but also the most hopeful about its impact.
AI arrived in Philippine newsrooms carrying anxiety about what it means for journalists' work, at the same time as genuine hope about what it could make possible.
A press-release launch could not address apprehension rooted in unfamiliarity; the people most needed to carry the Copilot story were the least inclined to use the product.
Position Copilot not as a threat but as a tool that empowers people to thrive at work, in life, and in play, with Microsoft earning trust from media rather than buying attention.
Hands-on use in a social, low-stakes setting converts apprehension faster than one-way demonstration, so every touchpoint put Copilot in the participants' own hands.

Why Vero's strategy worked

  1. 1

Match the mechanism to the barrier: the obstacle was anxiety rooted in unfamiliarity, and hands-on use in a social setting addressed it more directly than messaging could.

  2. 2

Audience research located the exact tension to resolve; Vero's survey showed apprehension and hope coexisting in the same journalists, which pointed to experience-led conversion.

  3. 3

Framing product use as play, as in the quiz-night format, gave skeptical professionals a reason to try Copilot that carried no professional threat.

  4. 4

Targeting communicators first means any attitude shift can compound through the coverage and content they go on to produce.
