Ocean Spray | Press and Influencer Trip: The Pink Harvest Experience

Cercone Brown Company concepted and produced a two-day press and influencer experience for Ocean Spray that the agency reports generated 18.4M+ total impressions across influencer content.

Case in 60 seconds

Ocean Spray's cause-driven collaboration with Vineyard Vines and Bright Pink launched with limited visibility, so a partnership built around women's health awareness risked reaching almost nobody it was designed to serve.

The campaign appears to turn on the reading that a health-prevention message travels further when it is attached to a physical experience people want to photograph, because the cranberry harvest supplies colour and novelty that a public-service message alone cannot.

Stage the partnership as a place rather than an announcement, using a custom pink whale-shaped cranberry bog at working farm during harvest as the object that carries the cause, the two brands and the content in one frame.

Cercone Brown Company produced a two-day Pink Harvest Experience at Beaton Farms for five fashion influencers and four national media guests, who waded the bog, picked cranberries, attended a Bright Pink-led lunch on education and prevention, and finished at a Red Sox game at Fenway, with the resulting content running on Instagram feed and Stories.

The agency reports 18.4M+ total impressions across influencer content, alongside 19 Instagram feed posts and 103 Instagram Story frames, which it describes as organically shared rather than mandated.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

Breast and ovarian cancer prevention is a subject people avoid rather than seek out, so the work had to carry a Bright Pink-led education session inside an experience guests wanted to share for its own reasons.
A juice and cranberry brand has no natural claim on women's health messaging, so Ocean Spray needed the harvest itself, at Beaton Farms during the picking season, to make the connection between product and cause legible.
Ocean Spray acted as host and convener, supplying the farm, the harvest and the pink bog as the setting in which Vineyard Vines and Bright Pink could both appear, which is a different role from being the subject of the coverage.

Why Cercone Brown Company's strategy worked

  1. 1

A cause partnership with low launch visibility can be relaunched through a hosted experience rather than more paid announcement, because the experience gives creators something to describe in their own terms.

  2. 2

The Story-to-feed ratio the agency reports, 103 frames against 19 posts, suggests that a multi-hour itinerary is bought largely in Stories, so a trip designed for content should be sequenced as a series of distinct moments rather than one hero setting.

  3. 3

Pairing a nonprofit-led education session with the photographable elements appears to be what kept the prevention message inside the content, because the lunch gave attendees substance to write about after the visual moment was captured.

  4. 4

A cohort of nine, five influencers and four media guests, indicates the work was cast for the quality of coverage rather than for volume of posts.
