About the campaign

yallo sells mobile, internet and TV in Switzerland on price and simplicity, and its target of Gen Z and millennial customers is the most heavily contested segment in Swiss telecoms. Nothing in the offer is easy to differentiate, so the campaign had to be the differentiator.

The year ran on three brand ambassadors under the line "yallo can", structured as 7 key moment activations plus 6 always-on campaigns and opened with a workshop run by Kingfluencers. Two things distinguish it from a standard ambassador programme. Creators also produced content for yallo's own channels, which was then used in paid advertising, so the same production served organic and paid distribution. And in October 2024 the campaign left the internet: Taulant spent a day in Zurich as the yallo handyman, giving out coffee and Gipfeli in the morning rush and cupcakes on Bahnhofstrasse, teasing his route through stories so people could follow him, and ending at the yallo store in Shoppi Tivoli where participants had to solve a puzzle to open a safe containing a new phone.

The stunt structure is well built, because the story tease turned a physical route into a live event that could be followed remotely, and the safe gave it a destination rather than an ending. The numbers support the effort: one day offline produced a 3.62% engagement rate against 2.48% across the whole year, meaning the activation engaged its audience at nearly one and a half times the rate of the year's social work.

Kingfluencers reports 5.5M impressions, 3.5M reach and 119.6K engagements at 2.48% for the year, 767.9K impressions and 481.6K reach at 3.62% for the offline day, and over 2.4M impressions for the "yallo can" strand. Website traffic was a stated objective and no traffic figure is given. The 14 posts listed do not obviously reconcile with a year spanning 13 activations, and all figures are self-reported.

Strategy Breakdown

The primary strategy-learning section — interpretation, not a press-release summary.

Swiss Gen Z and millennial customers choosing between telecoms offers that are, in practice, hard to tell apart.
Telecoms brands all promise the same things, so a claim about speed or price arrives pre-discounted by every competitor making it.
In a commoditised category the product cannot carry the differentiation, which leaves the brand's behaviour to do it instead.
yallo positioned itself as the provider that just works, with the yallo can line turning simplicity into a running claim the ambassadors could keep testing.
A brand that shows up in the street is doing something a competitor's advertising cannot copy that week, and the audience can verify it in person.

Why Kingfluencers's strategy worked

  1. 1

Teasing the route through stories turned a physical walk around Zurich into a live event that could be followed remotely, which is how a one-city stunt reaches a national audience.

  2. 2

The safe at Shoppi Tivoli gave the day a destination rather than an ending, so the audience had a reason to stay with it to the last hour.

  3. 3

Using the same creator production for organic posts and for paid ads means one shoot serves two distribution systems, which is where the cost argument for creator content actually lands.

  4. 4

One day offline produced a 3.62% engagement rate against 2.48% across the whole year, so the physical activation engaged its audience at nearly one and a half times the rate of the social work.
